My favorite vacation spot has been the same place for my entire life. I love going to my family's summer home in central Pennsylvan
mllp88 - Wow ! That sounds so cool! I'm the youngest of ten kids and (only seven left now). We had a cottage at a small lake about 1/2 hour from the town we live in. We spent summers there until I was probably 11 or 12 and then, unfortunat
We have been fortunate enough to travel a little bit, but our absolute favorite place is the Outer Banks of North Carolina. It's only about 4 or 5 hours away, but we make it a priority every summer. Most summers 3 or 4 generation

That cottage or house on a lake w/land sounds like a 'day'dream I've had many times. You guys are so lucky to have been able to do that!
The best vacation I ever had, and there weren't really many, was a time-share in FL with 3 of my friends, right on the beach. It was beautiful, and in May it wasn't so hot yet. The white sand never burned your feet. I remember the first day, we made strawberry daquiris and walked in the water singing "Wild Thing" each person took turns with one verse.. oh what it was like to be in my 20's! I have to admit, we did drink quite a a bit of those little umbrella drinks, but I was never hungover! I kept telling them it was the Ocean water..
This year, we have planned to go to Wilder Museum in July, actually saw a post on here, I found it online. So the 2nd week of July we will be in Walnut Grove, MN. Amongst other things, there is a Nellie/Laura contest too, a whole 5 dollars to register! That should be interesting too. I love to see things in the old days. I have a friend in eastern MN so we will stop and visit one day there too..
I also always wanted to go to a Ranch or B&B in Wyoming and be able to ride horses, without a guide like I did when I was younger. One of my friends' friends had horses and lived on alot of land so we could ride free. It is awesome. Not the typical trail ride! So, we'll have to see what the rest of the year brings...
I went to Mackinaw Island once when I was about 12, while visiting my sister in Michigan. It was fun, we had to take a ferry from across one of the Great Lakes, I believe Huron, to get there. They don't allow cars on the island, so we rode all around in horse and buggies. There really wasn't much there but it was really pretty, I remember. There was a really nice fudge shop there, where you watched them make the fudge. It was yummy!
My husbands family all live in MI. We have been there, it's definitely
It sounds like we have all had some great escapes! While reading lori's post all I could think of were the Waltons! I believe being a member of a large family has been one of my greatest blessings and I love to hear others tell of how much they enjoyed being part of one, too. The memories are priceless and last forever.
I hope everyone, who is planning to travel this year, has a great time no matter where they go.

Not too many years ago, my oldest sister lived in northern Arkansas. The rest of my family (I've got 4 brothers, 4 sisters, 13 nieces and nephews) lives in Indianapolis. Anyhow, because of tight budgets my sister and her family couldn't make it here too often and of course, most of us couldn't really budget a trip to Arkansas very often. So we decided to compromise. We decided to spend a long weekend at about a halfway point between North Arkansas and Indy. We rented cabins at Meramac State Park in Missouri. I forget what city, but it's about an hour drive from St. Louis. The cabins were really nice and fully equipped. Well some might have microwaves and some might have toasters, but they were for the most part equipped with cooking utensils, stoves, oven, refrigerators, etc. They had two or three bedrooms, sofa sleepers and I think one or two might have had murphy beds. They also had grills and fire pits. They have walking trails, a cavern, a general store. It's beautiful and so peaceful.
It's a little more than a few years, now that I think of it. I now have a number of great nieces and nephews, but it was a great experience.
This year, my mother, my oldest sister, my older sister, my youngest brother and I are planning on taking a long weekend trip about 2 hours from here. The area we're planning on going has some nice walking trails and some good shopping. It ought to be fun.
When I get my bachelors degree, I'm treating myself to a trip to Harrisburg
