This past Saturday we did something nice in the beautiful weather.....my husband suggested taking a ride to Arthur Avenue in the Bronx to walk around. It was fun....it is like Little Italy....it has all authentic Italian food markets and shops. There are restaurants and pastry shops, shops that sell cheeses, and others that have freshly made pasta. There are a ton of meat shops and the choices are unbelievable - cow's tongue and feet, whole baby pigs, rabbits, and other "delicacies". I wouldn't eat any of that - but it was super interesting. We bought chocolate flavor coffee beans (for brewing real coffee - not candy chocolate beans), Italian pastries and cookies, a huge round loaf of bread - the real crusty kind with flour all over the top. We had a fabulous "home cooked" dinner, served family style...we had cold antipast, muscles, chicken rollatini stuffed with fresh cheeses and prosciutto, linguine with shrimp and calamari in a marinara sauce, and broccoli rabe. Then we got Italian Ice on the street - it was delicious. Anyway, it was someting different and we had a great time. Then we took a ride through the Fordham University campus....we saw all the kids pulling up with their parents....gosh, I remember those days!
Unfortunately, I did not take too many pictures....Going over the George Washington Bridge was pretty on such a bright, clear day....and one of the stores we visited had a little surprise in the pasta bowl display.....here are a few photos:
